Skunk Urine can be used as a cover scent.
The best-known feature of skunks is the great development of their anal scent glands, which they can use as a defensive weapon.
They have two glands, on either side of the anus, that produce a mixture of sulfur-containing chemicals that has a highly offensive smell.
The odor of the fluid is strong enough to ward off bears and other potential attackers, and can be difficult to remove from clothing.
Muscles located next to the scent glands allow them to spray with high accuracy as far as 7 to 10 feett.
The smell is bad enough, but the spray can cause irritation and even temporary blindness, and is sufficiently powerful to be detected by even a human nose anywhere up to a mile downwind.
Skunks are reluctant to use this weapon, as they carry just enough of the chemical for 5 to 6 uses - about 15 cc - and require around ten days to produce another supply.
Their bold black and white colouring however serves to makes the skunk's appearance memorable.
Where practical, it is to a skunk's advantage to simply warn a threatening creature off without spraying scent: the black and white warning colour aside, threatened skunks will go through an elaborate routine of hisses and foot stamping and tail-high threat postures before actually using the spray.
An item of interest is that, skunks will not spray other skunks, with the exception of males in the mating season,;
though they fight over den space in autumn, they do so without the spray.
A suggestion on how to use the Skunk Urine to kill your scent on boots without ever having to open the bottle of Skunk Urine.
Put your boots in a 5 gallon bucket with a closable lid.
Place the bottle of Skunk Urine inside the bucket also.
Dont open the skunk Urine, there is no need to.
Close the lid of the bucket with the boots and Skunk Urine inside.
This will work with the Skunk Urine still inside of the glass bottle it comes in,
with the aluminum lid still on it,
with the lid taped closed,
and the bottle still sealed inside the reclosable plastic bag it comes in.
The longer the lid stays closed, the stronger the smell.
I found this out by the way I store the bottles of Skunk Urine waiting to be shipped.
If I dont put the bottles of Skunk Urine in a plastic, metal should work also,
5 gallon bucket the smell comes through a cardboard box.
